Announcing the fourth year of The Cornish CCS Fellowship Residency

White River Junction, Vermont – The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) announces the fourth year of The Cornish CCS Fellowship Residency. The month-long residency is held during the height of New England’s fall foliage season and will include a $3000 stipend. The deadline to apply is August 15, 2019.

Located in Cornish, NH, The Cornish CCS Residency is designed to create a focused and inspiring environment for cartoonists to create exceptional work. Cornish is located 16 miles from The Center for Cartoon Studies (VT), in beautiful rural New Hampshire.

This residency is made possible by former CCS board member, cartoonist Harry Bliss, whose work regularly appears in The New Yorker. “I want to attract the best cartoonists working today and create a residency that is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for storytellers who are pushing the boundaries of the medium,” Bliss said.

Visiting Artist: Nick Drnaso

Nick Drnaso works as a cartoonist and illustrator in Chicago. His debut graphic novel, Beverly (Drawn and Quarterly), is about repressed modern anxieties and social insecurities. It was nominated for a 2016 Ignazt, Best Comic Collection/Anthology. In 2014, his comic “The Grassy Knoll” was nominated for the Outstanding Story and Outstanding MiniComic Ignatz awards. He also coedited the second and third issue of Linework, Columbia College’s annual comic anthology.

Next Up Visiting Artist: Nick Drnaso

Nick Drnaso has contributed to several comics anthologies, self-published a handful of comics, been nominated for three Ignatz Awards, and coedited the second and third issue of Linework, Columbia College’s annual comic anthology. His debut graphic novel, Beverly is a darkly funny portrait of suburban middle America centering on a group of gossipy teens. Previously, The Grassy Knoll, one of the chapters of Beverly, received two Ignatz Award nominations in 2014 and was mentioned as a “notable comic” in the Best American Comics 2014. Nick Drnaso is also the winner of the Cornish CCS Residency Fellowship for 2017.

Cornish CCS Residency Awarded to Nick Drnaso

Nick Drnaso has been selected as the winner of the Cornish CCS Residency. Nick is a Chicago-based cartoonist whose debut graphic novel, Beverly, was published earlier this year by Drawn and Quarterly. Nick will be working on his next book during his residency.
