Spanning six issues, three years, and all seven continents, the Irene Anthology defies all limitations. Editors and founders of Irene Andy Warner ′12, D.W. ′12, and Dakota McFadzean ′12 brought together over 50 contributors to create one of the most ambitiously eclectic anthologies in CCS history. Original pages from Irene will be on display in the CCS Gallery from October 7 to December 1.

Alum D.W. newest comic, Mountebank, releases with Fantagraphics

NEW!  D.W. (′12) newest comic, Mountebank, with Fantagraphics. A mountebank is a someone who deceives others, especially to trick them out of their money. Doubt you will feel tricked out of your money getting this book, the illustration style does trick your mind. It’s a psychedelic doodle book stretching the boundaries of what is a comic.

This is D.W.’s first comic with Fantagraphics. It was also featured as a notable comic in the 2016 Best American Comics. You can already see his psychedelic work in volumes 2, 4, 5, and 6 of Irene, a comic anthology D.W. founded with classmates  Andy Warner and Dakota McFadzean.

Next Up Visiting Artist: D. W.

D. W. was born and grew up in New Jersey and has lived in Philadelphia, Vermont, San Francisco, and Seattle. He earned his MFA from The Center for Cartoon Studies in 2012 and, alongside his CCS ′12 classmates Andy Warner and Dakota McFadzean, is a founder and editor of the comics and art anthology Irene. He is the co-creator of self-published jam zines with Kevin Uehlein and Mark Connery, and has contributed to publications in North America, Australia, and Lebanon. His first book, Mountebank, was published by Fantagraphics in 2017. He spends his free time memorizing poetry and oratory, learning about the Civil War, and volunteering as an adult literacy tutor.

D.W. (′12) is releasing his newest comic, Mountebank, with Fantagraphics this summer. A mountebank is a someone who deceives others, especially to trick them out of their money.
