Visiting Artist: Laura Terry

Laura Terry ′10 is the author and illustrator of the graphic novel, Graveyard Shakes (Scholastic Graphix, 2017). As a child, she spent her days in rural Texas raising livestock, playing in the woods, and discovering an intense love for books, particularly those of Neil Gaiman, Roald Dahl, and Ursula K. Le Guin. Laura is a former Xeric Grant winner for Overboard. Laura graduated from Pratt and received her MFA from The Center for Cartoon Studies. Now she works (and plays) as an illustrator and cartoonist in Brooklyn with her tiny poodle, Muffin. She especially loves drawing adorable woodland creatures and fantasy stories involving ghosts. Laura Terry ’10 released Graveyard Shakes with Scholastic in September 2017. Her agent, Bernadette Baker-Baughman from Victoria Sanders & Associates talks to Graphic Novel TK (episode 4: Agents) about the ins and outs of work representing cartoonists. Bernadette also talks about getting the best contract, and working with Laura on approaching publishers with Graveyard Shakes. Graphic Novel TK is a podcast about comic book publishing, co-hosted by Alison Wilgus and Gina Gagliano.

Graveyard Shakes is about sisters Katia and Victoria, scholarship students at a private boarding school. After an argument, Victoria tumbles into the underworld of a nearby graveyard.
