The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) announces the fifth year of The Cornish CCS Fellowship Residency

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

White River Junction, Vermont – The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) announces the fifth year of The Cornish CCS Fellowship Residency. Due to the pandemic, CCS was unable to welcome a fellow Cornish CCS Fellow during Fall 2020, so this year we are opening up two month-long fellowships: one in Fall 2021, and one in Spring 2022.

The month-long residency includes a $3000 stipend. The deadline to apply is July 1, 2021 for both residencies. The 2021 Residency dates are Ocober. 15 – November 15 and the 2022 Residency Dates are March 15 – April 15.

Located in Cornish, NH, The Cornish CCS Residency is designed to create a focused and inspiring environment for cartoonists to create exceptional work. Cornish is located 16 miles from The Center for Cartoon Studies (VT), in beautiful rural New Hampshire.

Hobo Mom, by Charles Forsman ′08 and Max de Radiguès (Fellow 2009-10)

Hobo Mom, by Charles Forsman ′08 and  Max de Radiguès (CCS Fellow 2009-10), is barely out and already on a best of list for January 2019, at Barnes and Noble! Published by Fantagraphics, this collaboration was drawn simultaneously across the Atlantic. Charles—author of The End of the Fxxxing World (now a hit Netflix series), is based in the United States. And Max de Radiguès—winner of a prestigious prize at the Angoulême International Festival of Comics for his 2018 graphic novel Bastardis based in France.

Fellow Update: Julie Delporte’s “This Woman’s Work”

The newest book from Julie Delporte, 2011-12 CCS fellow: This Woman’s Work. Julie’s autobiographical comic, coming out from Drawn + Quarterly in January 2019, looks at her memories and cultural consumption in journal-like entires that explore her struggles with femininity and womanhood.

On Exhibit at CCS: Original art by The Center for Cartoon Studies Fellow, Argentinian Cartoonist Liniers!

Liniers, a well-known Argentine cartoonist, The Center for Cartoon Studies 2016-17 Fellow, has over 30 original pieces of art on exhibit!

Liniers’s most recent book is Good Night, Planet (2017) from TOON Books, available in Spanish and English. This Level 2 book (for grades 1 and 2) watches what happens when you are asleep and your toys go out to play.

Liniers is currently living in Vermont palling around CCS where he continues to work and lives with his family. He published ten volumes of Macanudo, his newspaper comic in Argentina, in Spanish.

Mo Willems’s work in children’s books, TV, animation, theater, and bubble gum card painting has garnered three Caldecott Honors, two Geisel Medals, five Geisel Honors, three Carnegie Medals, six Emmys, and multiple bubble gum cards. He is best known for his Elephant & Piggie books and worst known for his Cartoon Network TV series, Sheep in the Big City.

Visiting Artist: Sam Alden and Sophie Yanow

Sophie Yanow is The Center for Cartoon Studies 2014-15 Fellow. She was born north of San Francisco. In 2011 she moved to Montreal, and with Colosse collective published In Situ, her acclaimed autobiographical comics series. She was an invited artist-researcher for the Canadian Center for Architecture’s “C for Condo” workshop, and participated in projects such as the the 48 Heures de la Bande Dessinée, the strike related online Manif de Bonhommes, and La Hausse en Question strike zine. Visiting Artist: T. Edward Bak

T. Edward Bak was born in Denver, Colorado in 1970.  He wrote and drew the comic strip Service Industry for three years in the Athens newspaper Flagpole. Bak’s comics have been published by Bodega Distribution and Sparkplug Comic Books, and he has contributed to anthologies such as Project: Romantic (AdHouse Books), Studygroup 12, Drawn & Quarterly Showcase and Houghton-Mifflin’s Best American Comics 2008.  His newest book, Island of Memory, was released by Floating World Comics.  Bak was a fellow at The Center for Cartoon Studies in 2008-09.
