Robyn Smith ’17 Emerging Talent Award from CXC

Robyn Smith ’17 won the Emerging Talent Award at the recent CXC (Cartoon Crossroads Columbus)! The award comes with a no-strings-attached check for $7,500, to support an amazing cartoonist just starting to make their mark on the comics scene.

Robyn is an alumni and fellow at The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS). She is a Jamaican cartoonist best known for her mental health / Blackness memoir The Saddest Angriest Black Girl In Town; Wash Day, written by Jamila Rowser; and illustrating DC Comics’s Nubia: Real One graphic novel, written by L.L. McKinney. You can preorder her next book, Wash Day Diaries, coming in May 2022 with Chronicle Books.

Jason Lutes Berlin tour: Cartoon Crossroads Columbus

With the release of the Berlin: City of Light (Drawn and Quarterly), Jason Lutes is out and about this fall. On September 27–30, you will find Jason in Columbus, OH, at Cartoon Crossroads Columbus (CXC). Jason’s trilogy Berlin, now compiled in a single volume, is a historical fiction graphic novel about the decline of the Weimar Republic and the rise of Nazism in Germany.

Kevin Czap is a cartoonist and publisher who’s recently found a home in Providence, RI. Known to some as “Comics Mom,” Czap has been active in the scene since 2010, teaching, blogging, cheerleading, and co-organizing a convention in the meantime. They currently are focused on celebrating comics through the micro-press Czap Books, and continuing to put out personal projects.
