Comic-Con International has just announced its 2011 Eisner Award nominees, and two CCS books made this prestigious list.  James Sturm’s Market Day was nominated for Best Graphic Album (New).  Sarah Stewart Taylor and Ben Towle’s Amelia Earhart: This Broad Ocean was nominated for Best Publication for Kids.  Good luck James, Sarah and Ben!

Amelia Earhart: This Broad Ocean Receives Praise

The Center for Cartoon Studies presents Amelia Earhart: This Broad Ocean

Amelia Earhart: This Broad Ocean, by Sarah Stewart Taylor and Ben Towle, was included in two prestigious best-of lists.

This Broad Ocean was selected by The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) for their 2011 Great Graphic Novels for Teens list.  This list includes 63 titles recommended for readers ages 12-18.  This Broad Ocean meet ALA’s criteria, being both good quality literature and an appealing read for teens.

It was also included in the 2011 Amelia Bloomer List, an annual list of the best feminist books for young readers.  The Amelia Bloomer Project promotes books that “encourage girls and young women to love themselves for who they are, overcoming issues of body image to create new cultural contexts that honor the beauty of all girls and women”.

Amelia Earhart Returns to White River Junction

White River Junction, Vermont – Seventy-five years ago, Amelia Earhart visited Vermont for the first time, her plane touching down at the airport just minutes from where The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) campus now resides. Earhart is returning to White River Junction, this time as the star of the fourth of a five book graphic novel series by CCS featuring the lives of remarkable Americans.
