If it is time to bring your comics up to the next level, Luke Howard ′13 and Jarad Greene ’17 can help you step up in Cartooning Studio (June 25–29). A 5-day, intensive summer workshop, Jarad and Luke will teach character development, environments, writing, and inking through lectures and in-class exercises.
Studio time each day allows students to work on their own concepts and get feedback from the instructors. By the end of the week, each student should have a big stack of finished pages.
Luke Howard is a versatile and thoughtful cartoonist. He is the program coordinator at CCS, where he also coteaches Publication Workshop with Jon Chad. His comic All Coons Look Alike to Me: The Life of Ernest Hogan, Father of Ragtime was named a Notable Comic in The Best American Comic Series for 2013. Then in 2014, his mini comic Trevor was nominated for an Ignatz. His latest comics are Talk Dirty to Me (AdHouse Books) and Our Mother (Retrofit).
Jarad Greene is an up-and-coming young adult creator. He is the administrative coordinator at CCS. He received a mini-grant from MICE in 2017 for Memories of a Former Porcelain Doll, a comic memoir about an acne-filled adolescence.
