Sasha Velour ′13 is doing a one-woman show, Smoke and Mirrors. The show toured Australia and New Zealand in January 2019 to rave reviews. Winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 9, Sasha used her comic training from The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) to aid in the design of her costumes for this show, saying “to draw a good character you to draw it really tiny, and make sure that the person is recognizable.”

The sold out show debuted in the U.S. for the first time in March 21, playing through March 30. Tickets are on sale now. The 75-minute theatre show is told in two acts, with 12 dazzling performances.
- Jaya Saxena on Garage: while she knows you can’t understand drag through the lens of a single performer, she hopes her show can expand people’s ideas of what drag can be.
- In the Dark: Inspired by the parallels between drag and the historical traditions of vaudeville, circus, and magic, “Smoke & Mirrors” is an experimental queer fantasia that showcases Velour’s innovative use of projections in lip-synch performances, her signature style of theatrical stunts paired with emotional pathos, and her mission to create new ways of viewing drag.
- Welcome to Andyville (Sydney, Australia): Sasha is the real deal. Her commentary in between songs was funny, honest and revealing.
- Go Hakka (Brisbane, Australia): Season 9 winner Sasha Velour is one of the series most innovative and artistic performers who has finally got the chance to bring her unique stage show to theatres worldwide.
