With the release of Off Season (Drawn and Quarterly), Jason Sturm is off touring the country. On March 28–30, you can see James at the AWP (Association of Writers and Writing Programs) Conference and Bookfair in Portland, Oregon. Off Season is about a couple divided by the politics of 2016—Bernie’s loss to Hillary, Hillary’s loss to Trump, and the disorienting months that followed.
The AWP Conference and Bookfair is focused on writers, teachers, students, editors, and publishers. The four-day event focuses on networking and access to organizations and opinion-makers through over 2,000 presenters and 550 readings, panels, and lectures.
James will be talking with Peter Bagge (Woman Rebel: The Margaret Sanger Story), Craig Thompson (Blankets), and Rina Ayuyang (Blame This on the Boogie) about “What Is the Literary Graphic Novel?” With moderator Candida Rifkind (Canadian Graphic: Picturing Life Narratives, editor), they will discuss how to tackle different genres, the styles, their influences, getting published, and more. You can find them at the Virginia Barber Middleton Stage at the Oregon Convention Center, Level 1, on Friday, March 29 from 1:30–2:45pm.
If you can’t attend this event, there are still some opportunities to find James on tour.
