Stephen R. Bissette, beloved CCS faculty, has recently released a new book, Midnight Movie Monograph on The Brood, where he dives into Cronenberg’s movie The Brood. Similar to Bissette’s previous work, Teen Angels and New Mutants, which deconstructs Rick Veitch‘s graphic novel Brat Pack, Bissette takes a forensic and holistic approach to examining the many facets of this dark jewel of horror that he calls Cronenberg’s first masterpiece.
It goes much further and much deeper than anything [in this discussion], and is – frankly – extraordinary.
—Samm Diegen’s conversation with Neil Snowdon on Diabolique Magazine
Bissette has a long history in comics and is best known for his work for Swamp Thing, written by Alan Moore and inked by John Totleben. The series went on to win the 1985, 1986, and 1987 Jack Kirby Awards for Best Continuing Series. He was also the force behind Taboo, which won the Eisner Award for Best Anthology in 1993. More recently he has been working on his T-Rex comic, Tyrant.
