After an extremely successful Kickstarter for Wash Day, written by Jamila Rowser and drawn by Robyn Smith ’17, their comic is getting a wider release through Chronicle Books. Coming in fall 2021, the new book will expand on the original premise, a slice-of-life comic celebrating the beauty and endurance of black women and their hair. In the original version, Wash Day follows Kimana, a 26-year-old woman living in the Bronx, as she cares for her long, thick hair. As Kim goes through her Sunday morning rituals, we see the highs and lows of her day—fresh coffee, rising rent, girl talk and catcalls. Robyn is also the artist on the new Nubia: Real One from DC, coming February 2021.
