CCS Alum and Faculty in The New Yorker

Congratulations to Lillie Harris ’21 and Daryl Seitchik ’18 with cartoons in recent issues of The New Yorker! The New Yorker is one of those pinnacles of achievement for a lot of cartoonists, so a lot of hard work goes into getting a comic accepted. Many CCS alum and faculty cartoons have appeared in The New Yorker! The November 20th The New Yorker “Daily Shouts” featured faculty Glynnis Fawkes cartoon “2020 As A Newborn” which reflects on parenting during a pandemic.

Luke Howard ’13 has had two comics, including the one below. He has lots more in this vein on his paused Instagram. He has two graphic novels out, Talk Dirty to Me and Our Mother.

Look, I’m sorry to cut you off—it’s just that I really can’t stand listening to other people’s dreams.

Emma Hunsinger ’20 has had four gag comics published as well as a longer form comic, created for an assignment at The Center for Cartoon Studies: How to Draw a Horse. Spanning 10 pages in print, the comic initially ran online in May 2019.

Mitra Farmand ’13 has had multiple comics published in The New Yorker.

Nomi Kane ’11 has at least one comic published in The New Yorker. She creates pet portraits and designs action figures.

Luke Healy ’13 is the creator of How to Survive in the North, Permanent Press, and Americana (And the Act of Getting Over It). He is currently based in London.

In 2011, James Sturm wrote an article for Slate about just how hard it is to get published in The New Yorker.
