Josh Kramer ’11 has been continuing his amazing work on nonfiction comics. He publishes comics at The Nib, including “Is the California Condor the Endangered Species Act’s Last Success Story?” Here, he looks at the possible drastic changes to the Endangered Species Act. Josh uses the success of the California Condor repopulation, one of the first species included in the protection list, as a lens to dissect the problems with the potential changes.
Earlier this year, Josh created an illustration about the effects of catching Atlantic herring for the Conservation Law Foundation. The illustration was used to help explain an amendment proposed by The New England Fishery Management Council that sets a catch limit for herring to take into consideration the whole ecosystem.
Back in December 2017, Josh created a series of illustrations for the hit podcast “StartUp” for Gimlet Media. This podcast, as the name suggests, discusses what it is like to start a business.
And though The Cartoon Picayune, his nonfiction comic anthology, has completed as of December 2017, he continues to maintain the CoJo List (a newsletter about the amazing nonfiction and journalistic comics being published online). He was the 2016–17 fellow at The Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship program at the University of Michigan.
