One of 1,100 Post Offices decorated by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts under the New Deal administration between 1935-1943. Artists were found by competing in blind competitions. The goal of the Section was to create art that immediately connected to the common man. These works were considered traditional and quasi-realistic, not avant-garde, and mirrored the region’s character.
