Arts find home in
White River Junction
Illustrations by CCS alum
Modi Kwanza
About this project: The idea of presenting the story of White River Junction’s artistic renaissance in illustrated form was influenced by the major presence in town of The Center for Cartoon Studies, a school that opened on South Main Street in 2005. Burlington Free Press staff writer Brent Hallenbeck recently spent two days in White River Junction talking with the creators of the community’s creative scene and taking numerous photographs of their work. He brought his words and pictures to Free Press copy editor/page designer Modisane Kwanza, an alumnus of The Center for Cartoon Studies, who based his illustrations on those photos.
