Tillie Walden ′16

“Tillie Walden '16 has published three books, been nominated for an Eisner and won two Ignatz awards. Not bad for anyone, let alone a young artist born in the mid-90s.”

On A Sunbeam
This is Tillie’s second major graphic novel since graduating from The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS). Her first graphic novel, the Eisner award-winning memoir Spinning, began as her CCS thesis project.

Tillie Walden, already a known power-house in the comics community, was recently included in Variety's first "10 Storytellers to Watch" list, for her graphic novel On a Sunbeam (First Second).

Originally published online, it interweaves two timelines: that of a ragtag construction crew traveling deep-space to repair beautiful, long-abandoned structures, and of two girls in boarding school who love and lose each other.

The Storytellers event honors breakout storytellers, including podcasters, novelists, lyricists, playwrights, graphic novelists, and those using their chosen mediums to connect with audiences in new ways.

“I visited the school (CCS) and my decision was instant,” said Tillie Walden. “It had everything I was looking for: teachers I loved and respected, a challenging curriculum, and a community of like-minded cartoonists.”
