WORKSHOP FOR EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS: CREATE COMICS 2005 JUNE 27 - JULY 1 WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VERMONT


- The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) is offering a special workshop on comics and self-publishing, CREATE COMICS, June 27-July 1. During the 5-day intensive, CCS faculty will work with students to produce a comic. Comics are not just illustrating text but a unique form of picture writing. From generating ideas through designing a finished publication, all the components of visual storytelling will be briefly covered. CREATE COMICS is designed for high school juniors, seniors and undergrads. Art educators may also benefit from the class. The program will run daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

CREATE COMICS faculty includes James Sturm, Steve Bissette, and James Kochalka. James Sturm is the co-founder of The Center for Cartoon Studies. His graphic novels have been published by Drawn and Quarterly Books, Fantagraphics Books, and Marvel Comics. Steve Bissette is best known for his multiple award-winning collaborations with Alan Moore on Saga of the Swamp Thing (DC). He was awarded the comics industry Inkpot Award for Superior Career Achievement in 1998. James Kochalka's comics have been published by almost every alternative comics publisher; he's recorded several music CDs under the name James Kochalka Superstar; and he's developed animated cartoons for Nickelodeon. Best known for his graphic novel, Monkey vs Robot, and his critically acclaimed, Sketchbook Diaries.

Tuition for CREATE COMICS 5-day intensive is $650. Space is limited to 20 students. Classes will take place at The Center for Cartoon Studies, 92 S. Main Street, White River Junction, Vermont. For more information and to register, visit: http://cartoonstudies.org/summer

The Center for Cartoon Studies - "America's only two-year cartooning program" is opening in White River Junction, VT in fall 2005. The full-time two-year course of study program is designed for a small group of dedicated highly creative students with a passion and appreciation for graphic novels, storytelling, writing, comics, and design. Experienced and internationally recognized cartoonists, writers, and designers will teach classes. The school is located in downtown White River Junction, Vermont in the historic Colodny Surprise Department Store building. cartoonstudies.org
