Selected Pieces from the CCS Archive and Sturm Collection

On exhibit throughout November

CCS students, alumni, faculty, staff and guests are welcome to view the current exhibition in the Colodny Gallery, Selected Pieces from the CCS Archive and Sturm Collection, on exhibit this November. With original artwork by Seth, Bill Griffith, Kim Deitch, Ted Stearn, Sam Cobean (1913-1951), Adrian Tomine, Anders Nilsen, Johnny Ryan, Jeffrey Brown, Julie Doucet, Chris Ware, Ivan Brunetti, Jaime Hernandez, Jason and Craig Thompson.


Professional Practices: Marek Bennet

Open to Y1 students and Alumni, Wednesday, November 19, 10am-Noon

This week, Marek Bennett will be speaking to the Professional Practices class about teaching comics workshops! Marek is an awesome educator and a fine cartoonist to boot. Check out his work at marekbennett.com and please come hear his lecture Wednesday 10am-Noon. All are welcome!

Marek is an experienced educator with Highly Qualified Teacher status. He has taught homeroom grades 3-6, as well as middle school science, and music and Spanish for grades K-8. His Comics Workshops teach comics production and publication skills for all ages in an active, discovery-based learning environment. Marek s self-syndicated comic strip Mimi s Doughnuts appears weekly in New England newspapers. It tells the epic story of a family-run doughnut shop in rundown Claymont, NH. Marek lives in New Hampshire with his wife Denise, his step-daughter Faith, his little brother Ross, and about a jillion little furry creatures of various species.


Visiting Artists Seminar: Alex Robinson

Thursday, November 20, 3-5pm

In 2001 Alex Robinson won an Eisner Award for "Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition" for his graphic novel Box Office Poison. Box Office Poison was originally a self-published mini comic series before being collected into a 608-page graphic novel by Top Shelf Productions. Alex's second graphic novel, Tricked, also published by Top Shelf, won a Harvey Award for Best Original Graphic Novel and an Ignatz Award for Outstanding Graphic Novel. His latest graphic novel, Too Cool to Be Forgotten, was published in 2008. For more info: www.comicbookalex.com


CCS Film Club

The CCS Film Club was founded in 2005 by Steve Bissette with the goal of promoting a greater understanding of cinema. With an eye toward challenging, entertaining, and exposing students to an international array of films they might never otherwise see or know of, the club organizes film screenings, lectures and visiting filmmakers. It is open only to students, faculty, staff, and the CCS community.
